Ed Herrmann is a San Diego native who was a pitcher at Crawford High School. In 1964 he was drafted to be a catcher with the Milwaukee Braves. He signed shortly after with the Chicago White Sox and remained with them until 1974 when he was traded to play with the New York Yankees. He ended his career in 1978 after playing with the Los Angeles Angels the Houston Astros and the Montreal Expos. Herrmann's highlight year was 1970 when he hit 19 home runs for the White Sox for a .283 batting average and 52 RBIs. He was also elected to play in the 1974 All-Star Game. Herrmann participated in 1 no-hitter in 1967 for Joel Horlen and catching another in 1976 for Larry Dirker. His fans called him "SupHerrmann" and was called "Hoggy" and "Fort Herrmann" by his teammates.
